There is no better feeling in the world than being in an airport, browsing the magazines and seeing your pieces in one!! Yeay! Love to see our chokers in the latest issue of Essence!
Dushi - one of my favorite words in Papiamentu. It literally means sweet, it can be used to describe something that tastes delicious but can also be used as a term of endearment like sweetheart.
Eeeeew! So, so excited to see Kelly Ripa wearing her Mama BECKlette right in time for Mother's day! We love her!!
Our Pearl bangle in the latest issue of People Style Watch!!
I’m happiest at sea so when my husband (and business partner) proposed a trip to Saint Barth to introduce our line of jewelry BECK, I was instantly packing my bags. On this particularly gloomy, rainy New York day packing vibrant silk dresses and white tunics was a welcomed escape.
Both Danny and I are originally from Curacao so we’re no stranger to clear waters and sandy beaches, but what we encountered in Saint Barth was pure magic. This little collectivity of France has the best of both worlds, the laid back approach of Caribbean life paired with incredible French wines, designers, cuisine… complete joie de vivre.
As with most Caribbean Islands (but specially in Saint Barth) you can never go wrong with white. White linen dresses, white breezy tunics and white jeans are the norm, paired with a Tahitian pearl choker, leather sandals and a fantastic tan.
You’ll need a good tanning oil and moisturizer for the body and a strong SPF for your face- however don’t bring too many products as the pharmacies here are fully stocked with local and French cosmetics. I found some incredible oils, hair products and bath salts.
In terms of jewelry, simplicity is the new luxury. A nice watch is normally paired with a wristful of both very casual and high-end bracelets creating a low key luxe. Gold is paired with leather with an ease that is uniquely Saint Barth.
Bring your old tennis shoes as you’ll destroy them while hiking to the natural pools… (but completely worth it)
And of course, bring plenty of bikinis!
Ultimately simplicity is key- don’t over do it, absolutely never wear heels and a pretty lipgloss is all the make up you’ll need.
Eat and Drink:
O’Coral: Chill lunch, best fresh fish on the beach.
L’Isoletta: Pizza joint in town, still buzzing at night too.
Sandbar: A more informal restaurant at Eden Rock, complete view of their beach.
Tamarin: A beautiful property with incredible gardens.
Bonito: On a little hill in Gustavia overlooking the harbor. We enjoyed their dinner, however next time we may just go for drinks before sunset to truly take in the view.
La Plage: Lively music, french vibes on the beach.
Nikki Beach: Exactly what you expect from it, we found it fun for a few drinks then walked along the beach to Eden Rock- (Nikki is best on Sunday evenings)
Eden Rock: While sitting in the hotel bar, you feel part of the old St Barth- from the time when Greta Garbo and Howard Hughes frequented this ocean front lounge.
On that note, we recommend drinks or even dinner at any of the incredible hotels on the island. We were staying at Le Sereno and thoroughly enjoyed their restaurant. We also had a wonderful time for drinks at Le Guanahana, Taiwana, Cheval Blanc, Hotel Christopher and as previously mentioned Eden Rock. (Le Toiny was closed at the time for renovations but we heard their restaurant is excellent!)
This little island is soaked in Caribbean-cool.. and all the boutiques seem to carry it - be on the look out for beautiful sandals, tunics, jewels and cool beach totes.
For the home: clic (the same one they have in NYC and East Hampton) this branch has the most incredible Saint Barth photo prints, any of these images will fill your apartment with beach vibes. Also check out the wine stores, definitely worth bringing home a couple bottles of French rose´.
No matter what you decide to do, you’ll have an incredible time in this magical island!
Our BECK Classic chain has been our best-selling piece for years! This Summer we have decided to give it a Bohemian vibe with talisman charms hanging from either side.. Give this global look a try!
Fresh from the Farmer's market, these flowers inspired me to tidy up, the sit back and enjoy a cup of tea at home :)
Vanessa always looks incredible! Coachella is definitely where she shines the brightest! We were so excited when she chose to layer our BECK 'white hot' choker with her favorite pieces!
We were delighted when Pregnancy and Newborn magazine selected our BECK classic Gold hoops as a great piece to enhance your maternity look! I currently have quiet a few girlfriends with baby bumps :) so for them, and all the beautiful moms-to-be, below are some of our favorite pregnancy looks. As the weather warms up, I hope they inspire some easy, stylish (and comfortable!) summer looks!
In between seasons - Spring comes with unexpected weather, bundle up with an oversized coat paired with skinny jeans. Not cold enough for a coat? Wear a light trench in a soft hue (as Chrissy did) to create the perfect laid-back look.
Destination weddings - There are so many incredible options for bright, airy, maternity dresses! Go for a beautiful color or an exotic print. Ditch the heels and look for some elegant t-strap sandals- if you want the extra height, pick a wedge (avoid stilettos - specially if its an outside event!) Nude accessories work best, easy hair and make up, and lastly your sparkling BECK hoops to finish the look :)
Beach bumps - Accentuate your favorite feature (décolletage, legs, baby bump...) Chrissy chose to emphasize her incredible legs with an oversized shirt (messy bun, gold jewelry and dark glasses dress up this retro look) Mila looks relaxed in a sarong, while her tank accentuates her toned arms. I personally love an easy look for the beach, these Hatch tunics are wonderful, just throw one on and go!
Casual summer days - as temperatures rise, fabrics that breath well are key. Camilla and Rachel look casually chic running errands in their loose tunics. Choose either an oversize bottom or top- but not both at the same time :) A statement maxi skirt is perfectly paired with a fitted white tee, while fitted white jeans look timeless with an oversized shirt. Keep the footwear muted and comfortable for an easy vibe!
The Maxi - Lastly, the maxi! Such a classic piece, we all have one (two or three!) Its feminine yet sporty, pair it with a jean jacket to give your frame a beautiful silhouette!
I hope these looks have inspired you beautiful ladies! :) and happy early Mother's day!! xxB
Getting ready for Summer! This season we've updated our classics and turned the brightness up!
Swarovski crystals mixed with gemstones like Turquoise, Chalcedony, Chrysoprase and Amethyst, all in 14k gold-filled precious metals.
New York is magical year round, but something shifts in the Spring... You finally hang up your coats, feel the sun on your skin and flowers begin to blossom everywhere!
Lady Gaga looked stunning wearing BECK Jewels at the Oscars nominees luncheon at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. (She is nominated for the song "Till It Happens to You" from the documentary The Hunting Ground.) We could not be more honored!
Our BECK Baroque Pearl Studs are currently on sale to celebrate Lady Gaga's stunning ensemble. http://beckdutchcaribbean.com/shop/lady-gaga-beck-baroque-pearl-studs
Curaçao is a lively island filled with color... yet the feel is laid-back and relaxed... so don't over think it! There is sunshine 365 days of the year! So sunglasses or a good hat are a must (and plenty of SPF)! Keep your looks simple yet vibrant and you'll be sure to fit right in! (Good rule of thumb for any resort destination... when in doubt, wear white!)
Seaside sunset drinks... Calypso St. Barth tunic, Chloe sunnies, Piz Buin sunblock, BECK Golden Goddess earrings, Turkish towel in lavender, Calypso St. Barth leather flip flops, Veuve Clicquot Rosé (for beach picnics), J.Crew Market tote, Vogue, Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelee /// Places we recommend for laid-back sunset drinks: Zest Mediterranean/ Beach Cafe and take a stroll in the UNESCO historical area of Pietermaai and stop for a drink at St Tropez to catch the sunset.
All day under the sun... BECK Classic Swarovski chain, Calypso St. Barth summer dress, Missoni head wrap, Dior sunnies, Nars Orgasm lipgloss, Missoni Home Jamelia Beach towel, Kerastase Hair Conditioning Treatment, Muzungu Sisters Sicilian pompom straw tote, Lisa Marie Fernandez two piece... earbuds to listen to your favorite music while tanning :) /// Here's a list of Curacao's beaches (our faves include Porto Marie and Kenepa)
Freezing but happy... Hi NYC... I missed you! Happy 2016 :)
I absolutely love Elle NL, whenever I'm back in Curaçao I'm so happy to get a few-- toward the end of each issue they photograph the home of someone in the arts.. I just love Dutch decor... they always have an easy, laid-back approach. Like New York, most apartments in the Netherlands come with a ton of character, the clever mix of vintage pieces with the very new is what gives their homes an element of timelessness.. that and a perfect balance of simplicity and over the top. Add a couple of gorgeous bouquets from their world renown flowers markets... and its everything you could ever need for some serious decor inspiration!
There's fun to be had in Miami's Design District... We played around with our BECKlaces on statues and murals, visited amazing galleries and had some incredible tacos, margaritas and memories...
Coyo Taco.. amazing tacos, margaritas and paletas (popsicles)-- I recommend the Tamarin.. brought back so many childhood memories and its so refreshing on a hot Miami day. This place gets super crowded in the weekends, so be prepared to eat standing up :)
We often find our selves in Miami... we love the weather, latin culture and the current food and art boom! My little brother (or not so little) Jose Manuel has been living here for the past few years and is now working at the Four Seasons kitchen, I take any chance I have to come visit him and check out his culinary world... on this past trip our fav was:
With a laid-back, artsy vibe... this place is a must! The cuisine is a typical Miami mesh up of latin faves, like tequeños, empanadas, chimichurri, ceviche and alfajores -- among many more dishes. But the star of this place is the amazing murals that lines the outside dining area... in my opinion, skip the inside area (we're in Miami after all)... find a chill spot along your favorite mural, order some margaritas and tequeños and relax :)
Today we spent all day decorating our new home in Brooklyn! Its been such a pleasure picking out our first tree together and starting new Christmas traditions... To tie in the Christmas decor (and to fill up some empty wall space) I decided to tackle on some painting! The big one (seen over the sofa) was actually an amazing find, we found this 6 foot canvas already stretched, completely abandoned during a morning stroll on Bond St. -- we quickly scooped it up, cleaned it, I took out my acrylics and began painting an abstract to give the room a much needed pop of color! Scroll below for an easy DIY for the little painting in our office :)
While painting the larger canvas in the living room I was mixing my colors in a scrap piece of carton (the back of where the set of paint brushes came in). When I was ready, I realized I loved the mesh up of colors! So I let it dry, went to A. I. Friedman and found a sleek picture frame in which to frame it in... and ready! (to make it look more professional, I took out the matt, signed and dated it) xxB
Lazy Sunday... celebrating the start of the season and eating last night's cake :)
